Role Overview:

The GSE Design Engineer is responsible for selection and design of the systems needed to test everything from an individual rocket component up to a full rocket engine. Components being tested range from valves, regulators, actuators, pumps, igniters, and transducers. Additionally, designers are responsible for the layout of test facilities to ensure they are safe and compliant with all local, state, and federal requirements. They expect these engineers to be self-starters and good at designing tests systems. Hands-on experience is required.

• Design fluid and mechanical test systems to support component checkouts and rocket engine testing - fluids include kerosene, oxygen, nitrogen, helium, and hydrogen with pressure ranges from 100 to 6,000 psi
• Perform component and instrumentation selection
• Generation of piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID)
• Perform fluid flow analysis with hand calculation, spreadsheet, and computer codes
• Generate facility layouts
• Perform piping flexibility analysis
• Perform structural analysis using FEA
• Generation of CAD models and drawings

Basic Qualifications:

• BS degree or higher in an engineering field (Mechanical or Chemical Engineer preferred)
• 5+ years of experience with piping, facility, or test system design
• Strong GD&T and CAD experience (Solid Works, PTC Creo, Siemens NX)
• Familiarity with piping design software (Caesar II, Bentley AutoPipe, CaePipe)
• Hands on experience with ASME piping codes

Preferred Skills:

• Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
• Experience working with multiple engineering disciplines and technicians
• Familiar with National Fire Protection Association, International Fire Code, International Building Code, and International Machine Code
• Experience in design of electro-mechanical actuators
• Familiarity with FEA software (ANSYS preferred)

Logistical Requirements:

• To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
• This role will be located in Berthoud, CO
